Attendance
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for your child's academic success and personal development. At our school, we are committed to supporting every student in achieving their full potential, and excellent attendance is a key part of this journey.
Our Attendance Target
We set high standards for attendance because we know that every day at school matters. Our school target is 96% attendance, and we work closely with families to help all students achieve this goal.
Why Attendance Matters
Missing school affects more than just academic progress. Students with poor attendance can fall behind in their learning, miss important social interactions with peers, and find it harder to settle back into school routines. Even a few days absence can have a significant impact over the course of a school year.
Research shows that students with attendance rates below 90% are significantly less likely to achieve their potential in examinations and assessments.
Term-time absence
In line with government guidance, we do not authorise term time absences for holidays or non-essential travel. The school calendar provides 13 weeks of holiday throughout the year for families to spend time together and take breaks.
Requests for term time absence will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, and each request will be assessed on an individual basis. Parents and carers should be aware that unauthorised absences may result in penalty notices being issued by the local authority.
We strongly encourage all families to plan holidays and trips during scheduled school breaks to ensure your child does not miss valuable learning time.
Working Together
We understand that illness and genuine emergencies occur, and we will always work with families to support students during difficult times. However, we ask that parents and carers help us by:
- Ensuring students attend school every day unless they are genuinely unwell
- Scheduling appointments and holidays outside of term time wherever possible
- Contacting the school on the first day of any absence
- Working with us to address any barriers to attendance
To further support you with this, please see out attendance policy which can be found under the policy section, which details our approach to attendance.
If you have any concerns about your child's attendance or need support, please contact our attendance team who are here to help.
